Job Title: Director, Enterprise Lifecycle Facilities Management & Maintenance Services

Position Summary:

Oversees the planning and implementation capital asset lifecycle including biomedical equipment (fixed and moveable) and physical plant operations including, utilities and energy management systems in order to provide a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for patients, visitors, physicians, faculty and staff across all City of Hope locations.  Supervises the work of Assistant Directors, Managers and Chief Engineer to ensure that planning, LODO operations and project execution are formulated correctly to meet the needs of the organization, designed to perform consistent with the facility requirements, local and regional governmental and regulatory code requirements, and completed within time and budgetary targets approved by organizational leadership.  Interfaces regularly with executive leadership and various internal stakeholders.

Immediate emphasis will be on developing and implementing process (asset life-cycle) necessary for the effective management, control, and protection of all capital assets supporting the customer, throughout all phases of the lifecycle (acquisition through use/re-use, retirement, and/or disposition).  Maintenance, repair, replacement and purchase of assets will be done in accordance with defined service levels (Service levels relate to quality, quantity, reliability, responsiveness, environmental acceptability and cost).

Directs, coordinates and governs all functions related to safety testing, repair, and maintenance of biomedical patient care equipment. Provides training and technical leadership to appropriate patient care personnel regarding equipment operations, standards, and maintenance. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

Creating and overseeing an enterprise Facilities Operations and Maintenance model in support of the Medical Center, Research, Foundation Clinical Functions and Manufacturing programs located on the Duarte Campus and those facilities located off the main campus in order to establish COH as an industry leader in automated utility generation and distribution systems, energy management, environmental compliance and cost accountability.

Responsible for development of City of Hope's Energy Management Plan ("EMP") and the identification of anticipated savings.  The energy management plan will include, but not limited to, an energy policy, energy goals, operating procedures and baseline benchmarking evaluation and monitoring procedures.

Accountable for determining the best means of accomplishing services (e.g. vendor selection, insourcing) for all areas of responsibility including, but not limited to, maintenance services, utility management and biomedical engineering.

This executive will also be responsible for driving efficiencies and opportunities for process and project management improvements and implementation of their solutions.   Improve organizational capabilities while optimizing processes, building effective teams, and directing management/staff development.

Operating in a complex academic medical center environment, the Director will develop goals, budgets, plans, and strategies to ensure efficient, effective, and cost effective operations. Working with the multi-disciplinary team, you will collaborate in developing and implementing a vision for the organization, while ensuring that both current and future direction is effectively communicated and embraced across the organization.

In addition, serves as campus Fire Marshall and EOC participant.

Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:

  • BS in Engineering, Architecture, or related field to Facilities Management

  • 10+ years of managing asset life-cycle and maintenance in institution of comparable size and complexity. Must have proven ability to manage large programs and be efficient with decision making processes, have strong budgetary skills, and work well with many internal stakeholders and vendors.

  • Must have experience leading large multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience mentoring and developing a team and fostering an environment of continuous learning and development

  • Knowledge of regulatory codes, dealing with union environment

Preferred Education and Skills:

  • MS Education

  • Experience with LEAN or Six Sigma

  • CHFM, ASHE Certification/Licensure

  • Hospital in State of California or Pharmaceutical Lab/Manufacturing or Nuclear Power Industry
