Job Title: Executive Director, Enterprise Transformation & Internal Communications

Position Summary:

City of Hope is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and experienced Executive Director of Enterprise Transformation & Internal Communications to lead internally-facing communications strategies and programs that promote the enterprise strategic and transformational agenda. This role will lead and develop the internal enterprise communications strategy and plan, as well as lead the internal communications team and external Agency partner(s). The Executive Director will report to the EVP, Chief Transformation Officer.

The ideal candidate recognizes the strategic power of engaging an internal community during periods of transformative change and will develop high-quality strategies to engage the 5000+ employee and physicians community, taking into account our diverse stakeholder audiences (e.g., care providers, clinical and scientific researchers, administrators, volunteers).

The Executive Director will be a creative and collaborative partner in developing and executing effective communication and engagement strategies to drive the vision and transformation journey of City of Hope. The Executive Director is a key enabler of transformational change and will effectively partner and engage the enterprise to support cultural change.

This role will work closely with enterprise leadership to develop and execute internal communication initiatives to drive City of Hope's strategic priorities and initiatives. The incumbent is responsible for developing, maintaining and enhancing internal communications platforms and vehicles.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead City of Hope's enterprise transformation and internal communications team by developing and overseeing the implementation of an integrated, enterprise-wide communication strategy and plan.
  • Create and coordinate an enterprise transformation and internal communications program that effectively engages stakeholders in City of Hope's strategic and transformational vision, and drives the successful execution of key initiatives.
  • Provide oversight and strategic and creative direction to Director, Executive Communications.
  • Coordinate key messaging strategy and content, as well as the scheduling and timing of key enterprise messages.
  • Collaborates with Human Resources in developing communications strategies and deliverables to support City of Hope's employer brand and recruitment and retention of top talent in support of the enterprise mission, vision and values.
  • Define organizational support model that ensures that key areas within City of Hope are supported (i.e., build standard communications toolkits and templates, etc.)
  • Ensure that all communications align with City of Hope's mission and vision.
  • Proactively identify and create opportunities to increase City of Hope's transformation agenda.
  • Define communications support strategies and implement innovative approaches to drive internal culture of awareness, transparency, and engagement in support of our enterprise vision.
  • Triage internal communications requests and determine priority and urgency in an environment with dynamically shifting priorities.
  • As needed, hire, lead and direct outside communications, branding and marketing agencies.
  • In collaboration with the Digital Marketing team, serve as key leader of City of Hope's intranet/portal solution. Review, curate and edit internal news articles, events, videos, presentations, invitations and other materials for posting and/or publication.
  • Manage, develop and publish content for internal newsletters as well as digital and traditional publications.
  • Lead internal communications team operations: including, but not limited to, supervising and/or managing assigned employees, budgets, projects, and plans.
  • Develop and track internal communications metrics; evaluate communications effectiveness by utilizing data.
  • Stay abreast of best practices in internal communications programs at health care institutions with emphasis on integrating the use of new media (i.e. Web, IM, text, etc.)
  • Collaborate closely with the Marketing teams to ensure message and audience alignment.
  • Collaborate with and supervise creative-communications and technical personnel and manage complex projects with dependencies, deadlines, budgets and outside resources.
  • May be required to travel both in-state and out-of-state from time to time.

Minimum Education and Skills Required for Consideration:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 15+ years of experience in strategic internal communications or marketing communications experience.
  • Experience developing transformational internal communication strategies for large organizations with complex changes occurring.
  • Strong organizational skills to effectively manage multiple projects from inception to completion, adhering to deadlines, within budget and with high quality.
  • Demonstrated experience in relationship management and/or client relations. Highly developed communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in delivering pitches, actively contributing in a team setting, participating in committees and experience influencing colleagues toward consensus required. Customer service orientation required.
  • Experience managing relationship with outside marketing and communications agencies.
  • Effective communicator, analytical, resourceful, creative, team oriented.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Experience in application of electronic communications technologies to achieve transformative employee engagement.
  • Broad understanding of internal communications strategies, tools and measurements is required.
  • Ability to react quickly and deal successfully with sometimes conflicting objectives
  • Extraordinary interpersonal communications skills and confidence interacting with senior leadership is required.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard software programs suites is required.
  • Experience working within healthcare is highly desirable.
  • Experience in issue and crisis management, as well as HR communications is highly desirable.
